Bridge of Flowers 10k - 36:21 (5:50 pace) [Aug. 9th, 2008|09:00 am]

Bridge of Flowers 10k in Shelburne Falls, Massachusetts.

62nd place.

5:38, 5:43, 7:29, 5:15, 5:45, 6:31 (1.2 miles)

A very nice day for a race. It was warm, but not hot, so weather was not a big factor. Still took a couple cups of water to dump on my head though. Took it easy in the first two miles, survived the hill, and pushed the downhill and flats in the second half of the race as best as I could. Fourth time doing this race. Satisfied with outcome, because I'm not in shape. Is a positive sign for the fall though.

Loop through Medford and the Fells.

So tired this morning. Thought about postponing until later, but I knew I wasn't going to run if I didn't do it this morning. The run itself wasn't so bad. Temperature is much cooler at this time.

Wednesday - 49.75 minutes [Jun. 25th, 2008|06:30 pm]
Loop through Medford and the Fells.

Legs felt dead. Overall, the pace wasn't so bad, but it felt very slow in the beginning. Weather was nice. Trails are good.

Tuesday - 71 minutes (intervals/tempo) [Jun. 24th, 2008|07:00 pm]
Track mile in 5:25, 2.5 mile Fresh Pond loop in 14:40 (5:52 pace), then another track mile in 5:28. Track miles were done at Danehy track in Cambridge.

Worked out with Ryan and Brad. Felt good until last lap of second track mile. Legs felt so heavy by that point. Lack of base! Overall, very happy with this workout. It was a nice way to kickstart the base building. Weather was great. Although a bit humid, the temperature was cool.

Cool down after the USATF-NE 3000m racewalk. What a horrible event. Much more painful than expected. Shins are so tight. Felt crappy on this short run. Stomach does not feel good.

Also played ultimate tonight! It was very intense. Played real hard. Weather was very nice. Feeling a little better, but didn't feel so hot during the day.

Loop through Medford, including West Medford center.

Played ultimate before this run, so legs were heavy. Also, not feeling well. Have had a headache for the entire day. Stomach is also feeling queasy, although a little better than yesterday. Temps weren't too high, but it was very humid.

Serious training has begun! Came back from Greece vacation today. Not counting naps, been awake since 10 pm last night. Consequently, felt tired during the run. Very humid weather.

Loop around South Boston, including Castle Island.

Ran with Brad, Dan H, Chris, and Ryan. Legs felt a bit heavy. Weather was nice. Originally planned to run a tempo-oriented interval workout, but wussed out of the idea when I forgot to bring flats. Such a wimp.

Loop through Littleton and Westford.

Oh god, what a hard run. The first 20 minutes seems to be entirely uphill. My legs were already tired from playing ultimate last night. It was a real struggle. To add insult to injury, I had to take an "explosive" pit-stop at 34 minutes. On the bright side, the weather was gorgeous. I also had the sweet fortune of running on a dirt road for a little bit.

Tuesday - 58.25 minutes (tempo) [May. 6th, 2008|07:00 pm]
At South Boston, did 4800m tempo on the track. Tempo was further broken up into two different intervals (600m and 200m), done at different paces.

600m intervals were done at an average of 1:56.
200m intervals were done at an average of 0:47.
Total time for distance was 16:18 (average 81.5 seconds lap or 5:28 per mile).

Great night. Although the actual workout wasn't earth shattering, it was a pleasant evening for running. Even went shirtless mid-tempo! Felt tired after the first 1600m, but resolved to keep going. As a matter of fact, it was easier to run the above paces than expected. Shouldn't have been so surprising though, since 5:28 per mile over 4800m is basically a joke.
